Below are the last few slides from the PowerPoint of the "What Happened to the Water" Lesson. Some advisories were rushed towards the end and I wanted to make sure you had all of the information to complete the homework. If you have any questions tonight please text before 7, or call after 7. I am attending a meeting and will not be available from 5-7PM tonight 10/27.
-The structures that look like little mouths on the leaves are openings called stomata (singular, stoma) •Stomata are pores or holes in the leaves that can open and close. •The banana-shaped cells on either side of the stomata are called guard cells. •Plenty of water - guard cells fill with water and the pressure causes them to bend and open •When not a lot of water in the plant, the guard cells lose water -become limp and close to preserve water There will be a quiz on Investigation 5 at the end of the week. This quiz will be on transpiration (the celery lab), photosynthesis, and plant vascular systems. Use your past homework assignments and notes to prepare.
